Per attached, this back-up camera system is seriously complicated. Along with the three cameras, there are several other active and passive components to go wrong.

For instance, the display is dynamically affected by both speed- and turning radius. And there's an automatic defroster that thaws the lens whenever the ambient temperature dips below 32°F. The system also accesses the vehicle's ride-height sensor. And it knows when a trailer is attached — which enables a zoom function. It goes on...

After about a year, the system on my 2010 X5M had become more-or-less unusable due to flicker. The dealer replaced all three cameras to no avail. Eventually the problem turned out to be a faulty wiring harness.
