In the last couple of days I had some odd problems with the iDrive video and controller and couldn't find a thread of anything similar.

The first was when I when I backed up at lunch, the rear camera didn't come on, just a blank square. Thr right side did show the distance indicator and they were working. I restarted the car, locked and unlocked, same behavior. It worked that morning and later again that night as usual.

Next day the Navigation Map screen would not turn off the left 2/3 of the screen. You could see the control screen on the right 1/3. Buttons and knob did nothing. Again, restarted, lock and unlocked, and no change. Couple of hours later everything worked again as usual.

Sounds like a reboot was necessary but I couldn't figure out a way without walking away and let everything turn off and wait a while.

Ideas?
