I didn't see it in cncmastr's video, but I'm curious about a design element of the filter housing...
My latest X5M has a piece of plastic in the center of the filter housing where the 2010 I had previously didn't (I was the 3rd owner). On the current vehicle, that plastic piece holds the filter in the housing. The weird thing for me was how that piece stayed attached to the old filter (and the filter to the engine) while removing the filter housing from the vehicle. For clarity, as you "work away" from the engine block it goes: filter>plastic center hub>filter cap.
In various DIY posts and a couple X5 videos, I don't recall any reference to that thing I called a plastic center hub.
Given how much effort it took to install it on a new OE, BMW M branded filter, I wonder how the heck these plastic things don't get more mention.
