Excellent point to check your drains. First see if they drain before worrying about trying to clear them; they may be fine.

Newer vehicles aren't really a problem regarding body rust issues. However, older collectable vehicles suffered from leaves collecting down by the lower fender area and creating a moisture problem and thus leading to rusting out. Not to mention salt issues...
