i wouldnt do it. the rubber compound for a summer tire turns to a solid block when its cold. siping them wont change that fact. it will only had spaces between the solid block of rubber, and it would be little spaces, not enough to add traction.

my last car had summer tires and i drove it once when it was 20 degrees. the car was all over the place even below 10 mph. it was scary. it was like driving on hard plastic wheels. not something i would recommend.

i hate the idea of buying another set as well, but its the reality with any vehicle you buy that comes with high performance summer tires.
