What engine do you have? The 3.0L diesel? We don't have a 3SD in North America. Is it engine braking or are the actual brakes being applied? My diesel does sometimes shift down to give the engine braking feel but I have never noticed the actual brakes being applied unless going down a hill with the cruise control on that's the only time I have noticed mine applying the brakes.
