All this reading has me convinced. I ordered the H&R 1.2" kit from ECS Tuning.
I also ordered the Dinan shortened bump stops. No idea if they are needed, but don't won't to deal with taking the suspension off more than once.
I've fiddled with the suspension myself on nearly every car that I have owned, I don't think the X5M is going to be too difficult.
