I sure would love to pay less for the update than the dealer wants!

I think he said the update is about $250 plus they'll charge me something for their time to "install" it. So I'm guessing it will end up costing in the neighborhood of $400-$500.

Thanks!

Sure, I won't give an exact link but there is a 1000 post thread with 50K views in the F10 5 forum and a similar one in the E90post Nav forum. Basically, someone with entrepreneurial skills is selling the activation code based on your VIN for $50 which is all that is needed to activate the maps. If you have good internet skills you can find the maps but they are locked and need a code which is generated from the last 7 digits of your VIN. If you can't find the maps, no worries because you are given a link to the data which uncompressed is about 22Gb and the activation code is sent in an email.

Download the files, uncompress and put it on a stick (takes about an hour). In your glove box is a USB port. Plug in the flash drive and push your start button. The system will recognize that you have newer map data, ask for your code which you then enter and the transfer starts. It takes about an hour to transfer the 22Gb. The iDrive then reboots and off you go.

We have a new shopping center (not yet complete) not far from me and they altered a couple of intersections to cater to it. That is shown on the new maps and was not on the 2011 maps that I had prior.

I'll look for the 3D thing this evening. I'll maybe look around Colorado and post a screenshot.
