Ft. Collins, CO? Others can chime in with more experience, but I imagine you'll be fine running winters on the staggered set. No need to go narrow in the back.
I'm running 15mm H&R adapter/spacers for the winter set. I had no issues for the 2.5 months I had them on (about 3500 miles). Edit: probably the same spacers as @Cattivo on the rear only.
