I was told the same about early N54's, and mine has been (knock on wood) great so far. That reputation definitely made me bearish in the early stages of looking for my E92.

I do understand where you're coming from, but from my limited research it seemed like the E70///M versions are more stout than the standard 50i. And like most cars it varies and comes down to how well the service history for the vehicle has been over its lifetime. I won't make the jump unless I find a solid option, but it's definitely a one-of-a-kind vehicle that checks all the boxes in one package for practicality and fun!
