Would you consider doing the full LED headlight upgrade (from the 2013 models)? Lots of X5M guys on here have done it, so lots of people to lean on for retrofit help.
LED bulbs in the halogen corona housing is not really an upgrade IMO. I'm with you on the stock lights, they look awful and outdated, but the un-even light distribution with the LED bulbs leaves a lot to be desired.
