I went through the same decision and decided on the 3.0 simply for the fact I read the 4.8 mpg goes as low as 12 mpg. I just took deliver of the vehicle this week and been avg about 15 mpg on my 08 3.0. Value wise buying a 4.8 is better upfront as you can see the prices are pretty comparable. The 3.0 is definitely not quick but not as slow as many make it out to be. Good luck on your decision, mine was easier as I needed it as a daily.
