They do not touch the back of the valves or ports.
Add to the fact that any unburned fuel from say a ping event, can/will/possibly make carbon deposits behind the valves.

I know what direct injection is. The spent mixture most certainly makes contact with valves after detonation as the exhaust valve opens, which results in some carbon buildup. However, that buildup shouldn't materially affect valvetrain performance at such low mileage, IMO.
