I find it hard to believe that this is even necessary at such a low mileage interval. Just the risk to electronic and plastic componentry with removal and reinstallation make it appear to be an unnecessary risk. Despite the (slightly) higher carbon buildup on valves inherent with direct injection, why wouldn't using premium fuel and periodic fuel system cleaner mitigate this until beyond 100k miles?
