Nice choice on the color, then. It's called Monte Carlo Blue, and is an M color, meaning you won't find non-M X6s with the same color.
Definitely have local dealer do it. You'll be bringing the car there and building a relationship, so might as well start now.
As for normal procedure, who knows. I think they do the minimum they can get away with.
