I wouldn't avoid it...in fact it's the only E70 engine I'd opt for aside from the S63 (X5M). It's a sweet engine, offering much more power than the N55 (which has known Vanos issues), as well out the prior V8 model (4.8i) with the N62.

All E70 models have their quirks/shortcomings....these are BMW's, stuff breaks. You have one so I'm sure you already know that
haha yes.. I've learned to fix some of the issues myself. :-)

I'm just stuck on whether to get a 2011-2012 35i or a 2010 48i. Go with more packages or newer model? Is the 2010 48i comparable to the 2011 35i or 50i engine? Do you think the 8-speed transmission and 35i turbocharged engine is better than the 48i engine? With 35i I could also probably find diesel, is diesel > petrol?
