We have anti-idling restrictions in many municipalities. Normally there is an exception for very cold or very hot days. BMW has taken the position that idling os not good for the engine and exhaust so they do not like remote starters. In fact they have gone n the opposite direction, installing auto stop/start features in some models in Europe. It was a little disconcerting when the diesel engine of my 3 series rental shut itself off at a traffic light, then restarted.
I have never used a remote starter because I have driven mostly manual transmissions. Until BMW I always had a block heater. I found that it made a big difference in cold weather starting and because the coolant was warm, I was able to get heat from the car much sooner. I have never been able to get a block heater installed on a BMW. Any similar experiences?
