I like the v8s myself. I’ve owned 2x e70 v8s, the 4.8i and M s63. I like the sound and I like the power and have always found the inline 6 gas to be lacking. Especially during passing maneuvers.
But they have not been cheap to own. Though the s63 in the m while very similar to the n63 has a reputation for being more reliable. (Not sure if in my experience it’s true, it has different issues). But I enjoy the power and sound of the v8. I wouldn’t hesitate on a 50i that has an extended warranty or has had ccp, valve stem seals done, alternaor and most engine bay plastics replaced.
I would say the diesel with emissions deletes is probably the most reliable and most fun to drive of the non v8s. The 35i isn’t a bad engine either, and can be tuned easily like the diesel.
