I think there’s something to be said for cars that aren’t driven all the time and have lower miles. My ‘11 35i (which I know isn’t the engine specifically referenced) has been zero maintenance outside of routine. It has 57k relatively easy miles. As a comparison, my brother’s ‘13 35i was driven hard in the city by his wife. Things started getting expensive @ 70k miles, and he just traded for an ‘18, same engine. Keep in mind, regardless of engine, you mostly hear about bad stuff on the forums. There are an untold number of problem-free stories you never hear of, which probably far outnumber the negative.
