A few grand isn't an issue and I have an awesome indy mechanic who is a good friend of mine that is a great BMW mechanic. I was more concerned with like 5-8k worth of stuff I have read horror stories and I have read that others have spent a few grand. Even for my Honda's I end up spending a 2-3k for maintenance type stuff like doing their routine inspections at various mileages which are immensely expensive like $800 per routine maintenance (15, 30k etc.) and that is mostly inspection not actual work.
