I am guessing, but maybe BMW had Bridgestone develop these tires because the Dunlops were too expensive, and the tread life was also poor.
The Dunlops would be very expensive to use, while the Bridestones are reasonably priced, have decent tread life, and are also RFT. They would not work in a Winter situation though, as others have pointed out.
I really wish Michelin would develop a tire. I think they have a front tire that would work, but no rear tire currently.
