Well, yes. Safer in general for the people riding inside it, but only when you take into account the physics involving a bigger, heavier thing hitting a smaller, lighter thing. The bigger, heavier thing is going to win. You're right. It's not a fair fight. I hate that too.
I'm definitely generalizing, but I don't like the way a lot of SUV drivers operate their vehicles. Too fast--in both the best and worst of conditions, too many chances taken, too aggressive for what I perceive are the actual handling abilities of their vehicles, tailgating.
So, that makes me dislike encountering SUVs on the road.
