The trick is there's less clearance on the backside of the suspension piece, aka, there's more than meets the eye. Make sure you put your fingers around the top, inner sidewall of the tire and feel the clearance between the tire and the suspension piece. There's less than 1".

Do I think a larger sidewall from 40 to 45 upfront or 35 to 40 in the rear will fit. My gut tells me yes, but, I'm not 100% and frankly, the clearance will be VERY close where the sidewall rounds to meet the flat contact patch.

Stick your fingers back there and you'll see what I mean.
