As far as how much to trim, I would just say try until you get to a point that is comfortable for you and your desired ride height. Worst case, it is an inexpensive part to replace. There are also shorter bump stops available out there, but likely nothing for the X5/X6.

I see what you mean now, it's a very cool idea and one that i haven't heard of, please post some pictures of them if you can find them, it would give us all a much better idea of how it works, thanks
