its really tough to compare the M5 with the X5M, cause you are comparing a high performance sedan with a high performance SUV. the M5 is a high revving NA motor, the X5 is a torque monster twin turbo motor... the M5 is a burnout machine that loves to be driven sideways, the X5 is AWD and nearly impossible to pitch the ass out. The M5 has a dual clutch tranny (that operates very poorly IMO, the GTR or Ferrari F1 is far superior) and the X5M is just a tiptronic with a torque converter. The X5 M is 1000lbs heavier than the M5, so the braking on the X5M is far inferior to the M5... this also makes the steering feel much heavier and there is much more understeer on the X5M. I like the X5M much better for a daily driver because of its versatility and the updates to the technology, especially the iDrive but as far as performance goes the M5 is a superior car in almost every aspect. Bottom line is they are two completely different cars and trying to compare them is kind of silly IMO.
