They are black, but I remember looking at them awhile back, and the tips seem to be evenly coated...without any black on the connecting pipe. I also saw another M Sport 50i at the dealer (dark blue) and it had the same black tips..so I assumed some X5s came that way.
Looking back through the service history, it does look like 'fuel injector leaking' was something that was addressed last year.
