Steps to get the messages working (sort of)

1. Configure your car for Office (thanks BravoX from f30post)
a. From iDrive main menu, hit Phone 2x
b. Selected the Bluetooth Phone that was connected
c. Hit Option button
d. Selected Config Phone
e. Selected Config Bluetooth
f. Ticked Office

2. Configure your iPhone
a.Settings - Notifications -Messages - Notification On, change the number of notifications to show in the lock screen*
b.While still in the above menu, also makes sure "view in Lock Screen"** is on.
c.Settings - Bluetooth - click on the BMW link for your car (should say connected), and make sure "show on screen" is selected

* you need to change the number of notifications each and every time you get in the car

** Most sites report you have to do this under Mail. I think that is if you want the email messages showing up - my post is for the text messages

Overall, this is not ready for primetime yet. I'm hoping a patch from BMW and/or Apple makes this work a lot easier.
