Other websites may have tips on usage to avoid detection as some states may prohibit detector usage. That's why I recommend the diode behind an open center vent louver.

Have yet to be engaged by laser directly. but have experienced advance warning of Ka band way in advance of seeing Smokey citing someone going the opposite way.

A friend w/ the same unit in a carrera 4s was caught by Smokey because his receiver was not pointing straight fwd. 1/4 bubble off level can mean ur trying to detect aircraft over treetops @ approx. 1000yards.
At 100mph vehicle travels 49 yds/sec., u close 500 yds in 10 seconds.
Most Smokeys will not be setting up on the straight flat runs (unless they r there just for visual deterrence), but usually around blind corners @ much closer distances.
So if ur the point car within 300 yds u can be targeted multiple times !
I always let "decoys" run ahead of me around blind corners! so I can detect stray signals when they r targeted.
