Yup all too familiar with weight reduction and the impact of removing it where it counts. I know my car had RFT's and they will be replaced with non-RFT's in a heartbeat, when they are more worn. No sense in throwing away money just yet. But still I had no idea they were that heavy. Will be getting some good all-seasons like the Conti DWS or similar when the time comes.
As for DBW, its perfectly fine if tuned right. M cars get it right. As do custom tunes from tuners who take the time to play with overall driveability. I've had reflashes, piggybacks, and full standalones on past cars. A reflash is the way to go.
