In the end, I myself realigned the upper and lower tailgates and the creak went away. The tailgates were misaligned from factory, even visible with naked eye.
In addition, I have isolation tape wrapped to the center ring that uppper tailgate attaches to when closed. That took care of metal clunk noise during cornering.

Thanks. I think I have the alignment issue because my sound is that metal clunk when twisting the body. Like through a driveway maybe. Rattles drive me nuts, and my other car is an Evo, which is only massively ironic!
