It happened with the brake engaged. I manually released the brake so that I can drive it home. However, the warning sign stays on. Symptoms on my case:
BMW parking brake malfunction
Yellow PARK light stays on all the time
Fault code 6011 and 600E in ECU EEPROM DATA
Park brake light will not go off, even when the car is moving.
Orange Brake Light ON when starting the car.
Parking brake can't be engaged.
Is that possible to fix it before open the brake actuator?

How did you release it manually? |
As Thecastle said, you can find the tool and release cable in your trunk. You need pull it really hard until you heard a sound. Pull it gently!
