The rule of thumb is narrow tires work better on snow and ice. The 275's may not be as good in theory but I am not sure it would be noticeable. Having winter rubber will be the most important factor. With square setup, you can rotate the tires. On the x5, I still find my backs wear more than the fronts so u can rotate them for a more even wear. I simply tract the tread depth and rotate them appropriately.
