Actually around town my M50d gets better economy than my M-Sport 35d did, and it had the exact same options, the M50d revs 300 less for the same speed. The engine does not have to work as hard as it has plenty of power and a 8 speed gearbox.
Out of my first tank of diesel I will actually go around 25klm further and it is a long way from being run in yet.
PS. I also thrashed it up the beach on friday night at full tide for 10 klm to the beach house, it was runing in 3rd gear at around 3700revs, full loaded with gear as well. Coming back on Sunday was low tide and it was smoother than a freeway drive.
