I drove the E70 today, and agree with the mixed reviews.

A few brief random highlights/lowlights:

o Current X5 owners will find the driving position and handling very familiar.
o Driveline, suspension are fine, typical BMW quality.
o Suprise! The runflats are not even noticeable, very smooth and quiet, not at all like the E90 thump/crash/boom. Oddly, if you skip the 3rd row seat, you get a space saver spare?
o Get ready for a new Steptrinic shifter joystick thingy. I see BMW spreading this throughout the product line. It will be in the '08 5er this spring.
o The 3rd row seat capacity is small. Just for small children only, and ingress/egress is not good either.
o Technology package has lots of cool toys, if your into that sort of thing
o Worst issue with the new E70 is the price. Way too high IMHO. Current lease rates and residuals are not favorable. Expect 36 month leases to run $900-1100 per month. At these prices, the X3 starts to become a more attractive option.
o Dealer allocations are available, you can get late Jan delivery on a customer built car (in the US)

Overall, not enough to make me want to trade my LR3.
