A lot of good points....
For car seats, make sure that the upholstery is REMOVABLE and washable. It's not a matter of if your kid barfs or gets some other bodily material all over it, but when.
Diapers....go with what fits, cross referenced with what's cheapest. For us, the Target brand diapers are great (we have a 21 month old boy) during the day. At night, we use pampers night time's because he's in that for ~12 hours.
