Non Run-Flat Math
Just an FYI for those considering switching to non run-flats (go flats?). My 2012 X5 35i is at 26K miles and the oem run-flats are starting to get down close to the wear bars. I didn't want to deal with replacement later into the winter so I pulled the trigger last week. Purchased 4 255/50R-19 Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season's non run-flat on sale at Tire Rack for $726.60 shipped. Purchased E70/71 spare tire kit at getBMWparts for $387.95 shipped. Paid installer $95.00 to mount everything up (space saver tire needs mounting). Total out $1209.55. Having stayed with all season run-flats my expense range shipped and mounted would have been a high of $1436.00 or a low of $1124.00 or somewhere in between depending on which tires I purchased. It was hard to swallow paying more than half the tires purchase price for the spare kit which may never see daylight again but I got over it and am enjoying a very smooth quiet ride on the Pirelli's. I'm thinking of doing the same thing for my E92 next spring.
