On my vehicle I was able to fix(to my ears anyways/temporarily?) the slam issue by adjusting the receiving latches on both the bottom tailgate and the top tailgate. I moved them in, that is, towards the front of the vehicle. By doing that I believe that the tailgate is now hitting the rubber seal before the actual latch, when closing, and not causing the crashing noise.
