I'm just trying to help others sort out this information.
I had the wheel and module installed on my X5M. The wiring was done correctly.
The M button did NOT active M mode. End of story.

As for what I gather is the other manufacturer, Car Systems, their distributor wasn't even organized to sell me an actual module. But, they did respond to my email as well:

Yes, I had to replace a power fuse. The module and Fxx wheel are working now.
Next question, I have a E70X5M. Is there a way to get the M button to function without the NBT retrofit?

CarSystems Exx NBT Retrofit Adapter.
