The problem with your question is, "for a living." I can barely pay for my least expensive equipment off my photography venture, but it's growing slowly and could amount to a hill of beans in a few more years.
Other people have paid me to hang my stuff on their walls and publications, like Travel & Leisure, The Wall Street Journal, The Boston Globe, etc. have paid me to publish my images. Still the return on the twenty or so hours per week that I spend on photography is way below minimum wage, way, way below.
Good thing is, I enjoy it.
