I've read random stories about these driveshaft, but I don't recall anything specific as to why there was a date range where these failed. Was this BMW's attempt to save a few bucks, went with a different supplier and then found out said supplier sucked? This could be the corporate version of them trying to save a buck and ultimately costing them far more by being cheap. I work for a small mom and pop airplane company here in Everett, WA that tried the same thing with their parts suppliers and now every other program is basically funding us until they can recoup their failed attempts.
