On my e70 3.5d I had factory hitch and you will need a lighting harness and then programming from BMW for the truck to recognize trailer lights. Brake controller not necessary, brakes on x5 will suffice. Just don't tow spiritedly. Lol.
Auto leveling works no problem and just make sure not to tow in sport mode.
