Just heard from the dealer today. They had replaced a part by the steering column earlier to fix it and we're surprised it didn't work. Say they now have at last identified the fault to something in that area that'wakes up' when you get in the car (sorry haven't got the technical details yet). Sounds promising, now wait a couple of weeks for more parts to come from Germany. They've given me a brand new seven series to drive in the meantime, so not so bad. Will report back.
